FAQ//
Interested in the label? Have a few questions? Well feel free to contact us but also check the FAQs below:
Are you signing artists to record deals?
We realise record deals and signing to organisations can be a daunting task for most artists and quite rightly approached with caution. We've thought long and hard about how we can make it as open and as straightforward for the artist as possible and avoid giving them the feeling that they are losing control of their music or their rights. With that in mind Oh Mercy! Records will not be signing the artist but what we will be offering is an opportunity for the artist to release a single, EP or even an album on the label. The label doesn't own any of the copyright of the track(s), we are merely the vessel to help get songs into the digital world. It is essentially a license agreement between the artist and label, the label has no ownership rights to the tracks.
How do you get my music onto all the digital sites?
Oh Mercy! Records has a distribution deal with EMU Bands. We've worked with a number of different digital distributors in the past but we chose EMU because they very much are on the side of the artist and label. For starters they pass on 100% of the royalties earnt from sales, which is almost unheard of in the industry. On top of this we have access to a number of their marketing and promotion tools which will help with exposure. Afterall, it's very easy to get music out there but a lot harder to make people realise you are there! With EMU as one of our resources, it's going to be a lot easier.
What about promotion of the release?
On top of the services EMU offer, we have over the past 10+ years of being in bands, working with promoters, managers and producers, built up a lot of contacts made up of radio stations, music bloggers, fanzines, websites, gig promoters, PR companies and pluggers. We'll utilise these contacts to promote each release. We can't guarantee every radio station will play your songs and every magazine will write about you, but what we can guarantee is that we will work hard to promote the release. Oh Mercy! Records is also part of @Live which means we have more willing creative people to assist. We've also been lucky enough to have industry experts give us advice on creating our release strategy, so we ensure we cover all aspects of releasing and promoting music.
Are you a proper Record Label or just a bunch of chancers?
Yes, we are a proper Record Label registered with PPL. Through our registration with PPL we can assign ISRC codes to all releases ( there is usually a cost for this when dealing with a digital distributor directly). More importantly, as we are registered with the PPL they will ensure all royalties generated from the use or performance of your music are collected and passed back to the label. This obviously means we are maximising the revenue we can generate.
If you're a proper Record Label why aren't you going to sign me and give me an advance?
That would be great wouldn't it! Unfortunately the current economic climate and the way in which a lot of labels are heading, there just isn't spare cash floating around to pump into a band. What we will guarantee though, is that any money the label makes will go to the artist or back into the label and hopefully one day we will be in the position to give our artists an advance and sign them to a proper multi-album record deal....For now, that is the dream. We must stress that any project must be undertaken with 100% commitment from all parties....as D'Artagnan and his muskateer mates said....all for one and one for all!
