About//
While members of indie Folk Quartet Rusty Boxx have played together previously, it is only since early 2013 that Ross Ankers (Vocals/Guitar), sister Ellen Ankers (Vocals), Chris Bleach (Guitar/Bass/Vocals) and Chris Alford (Shruit Box/Guitar/Vocals) came together to produce their own brand of harmony-drenched, melody-rich folk music.
Ross met Chris in 2004 and joined his band on guitar.
They then both went to University where, despite the band coming to an end, exploration into the recording and production side of music began. With University complete they went their separate ways and after a spell living in Australia, Ross began writing songs again. Once he'd decided on his musical style and found his muse, the songs came quickly and before too long he was thinking about playing live and recording again.
The band released their debut EP, Scattered Keeses, on Oh Mercy! Records which has been warmly received by the critics. Leading Folk Blog, Folk Words stated "Their music offers an engaging level of abundance plus a certain sleek attraction", while Kent-based Music Review site GIGgle Pics commented that "The syntax, melody and harmony form a close relationship throughout the Scattered Keeses EP leaving not just an ephemeral impression, but one that stays with the listener for quite sometime". As well as releasing the EP the band have been performing constantly, perfecting their live sound and booking more shows.
Rusty Boxx will be following their debut release with another EP later in the year as well as continuing to play live.
